Barbarika (the son of Ghatotkacha and grandson of Bhima) was an exceptionally valiant warrior. He acquired three infallible arrows from Lord Shiva and a bow from Agni. Together, these granted him the power to destroy the entire world in a matter of seconds.
Before the Kurukshetra War, Barbarika promised his mother that he would always align himself with the losing or weaker side. Because he was so powerful, Lord Krishna realized that his involvement would cause an imbalance. If he fought for the weaker side, it would become stronger, leading him to constantly switch sides and eventually annihilate both armies.
The Ultimate Sacrifice (Sheesh Daan)
To maintain righteousness (Dharma), Lord Krishna, disguised as a Brahmin, approached Barbarika to test his strength. Impressed by Barbarika's boast that he could finish the entire war in just one minute, Krishna asked for his head in charity (Sheesh Daan).
Barbarika understood Krishna's true identity and willingly sacrificed his head. However, he made one final request: he wished to watch the entirety of the Mahabharata war unfold. Krishna granted this, placing Barbarika's head on a high hill overlooking the battlefield.

After the war, the victorious Pandavas began arguing over who was primarily responsible for their triumph. They consulted Barbarika's head, which witnessed everything. Barbarika declared that Lord Krishna was the sole architect of their victory, as his divine game plan and advice were the true deciding factors.

Mughal Invasion: During his reign, the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb sought to destroy the temple.
The Bee Swarm: As his army attempted to raze the temple, the priests and locals prayed to Jeen Mata. The goddess is said to have summoned a massive swarm of "Bhairon" (a legendary species of flies/bees), which relentlessly attacked and routed the Mughal soldiers.
The Offering: Humbled by the event and severely ill from the stings, Aurangzeb sought forgiveness. He is believed to have donated an Akhand Jyoti (an ever-burning oil lamp) from his Delhi palace as an apology, which continues to burn in the temple's sanctum today.
